Are you happy with your choice of books? Explain why or why not.
Today is Septmeber 17th and i have read from 47 to73 in the Prince and the Pauper.I didn't really make any predictions ealier or before i started the book, I'm not that type of reader. But I do enjoy surprises that the author brings upon. Now Tom is acting like the prince he's always wanted to be. I feel like Tom is feeling bad for the prisoners being sent to death, almost feeling like he knows what their lives are/were like. THat's alll I've noticed about Tom other than you can tell he's happy being off the streets and living his dream. I am not happy with this book, just because I'm a new-age reader, but oh well :) .... I've noticed this story line is very VERY similar to that of the new t.v. show on ABC Family called The Lying Game, my new favorite show! I's about twins that were sperated at birthbut then reunite and one twin takes over the life of the other while the other twin goes out and searches for their birthmother, who has been in the same town as them since they were born, it's very interesting.
    Final Blog:
    Major and minor characters:
Tom- Edward's look-a-like, switches places with him and poses as the Prince, lives on the streets
Edward- Tom's look-a-like, poses as Tom living on the streets, lives in a castle and is a prince
    King-Edward's father, King of Wales
John Canty- Tom's father, died when he was younger, was a poor man
    Summary:
The sum of this book is that the look-a-likes switch lives. Tom adjusts better to his new life than Edward does, going from living in a castle to living on the streets wearing rags. Another thing is how people treat other people based on how they look and what they wear. No one would have known that Edward was a prince when he was wearing rags for clothes. They treated him with disrespect.
    Rating:
I give this book a 2 rating, just because I didn't really enjoy reading it, but it has a good message.
    Wiki reflections:
Yes and no... I like that we are using technology for discussing, it prepares for online classes and other things in the future, but i find it difficult to keep conversation going about a book.

The book Green Hills of Africa is about Ernest Hemingway going to africa and hunting for wild game.
    Rating
If I was to give this book a rating 1 being the worst and 5 being the best I would rate this book as a 2.5 to 3 cause it was not that interesting to me it was kinda hard to follow. I have read worse books and better books.
    Wiki Reflections
Using this wiki for blogging is ok if you have internet that you can use at home. But if you don't have access that it should not be held against you or your grade in the class. I think it would be better if there was a different way of blogging it could be on the internet but may be have a cretin time in class to do it.

    Entry five: October 2nd
    Characters
Uncle Tom- He is a major character in the story. Tom is a very nice man, and very compassionate towards other slaves, such as himself. He is very religous and in the book carries his own bible with him. He learns that being a very religous man can lead to a very emotional struggle and can push a man on the edge. He is a Protagonist and is the main character in the story.
Aunt Choice- She is Tom's wife. She is just as nice and holy as Tom is. Though she loves Tom, she decides to escape for her freedom. While Tom decides to stay back, and get sold to other places. She is a protagonist.
George Harris- He is a slave at the same place where Uncle Tom is. He too decides to escape for freedom just like Aunt Choice. He escapes with his wife to go North. Only to find out freedom is the single most hardest thing to earn. He is a protagonist.
Tom Loker- After the fugtive slave law was passed. He was hired to be a slave hunter. Needless to say, he is ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He learns the hard way that its not easy to hunt slaves, and how they react when they are found. He is an antagonist in the book.
    Summary
During the mid 1800s, the biggest and most talked about topic, slavery. The story talks about Uncle Tom and his struggles through run away family members. Death to the ones close to him, being sold to many different people, and just trying to make it day by day working in the fields and in the houses. It also tells the story of his wife Aunt Choice and her kids flee into the North. As well as their friends Eliza and George Harris and their struggle to make it to freedom as well as some important choices and realizations about earning freedom, and what price it costs.
    Rating
I give the book a 4 out of 5. It is a very good book, with important lessons, but the book is very long. Not only that, but it is very hard to read as well.
    Wiki Reflection
I really enjoy using Wiki Spaces to blog our reading. It helps people to keep their thoughts organized, and we can back track on the work we have alreadly done. It also makes it easier to comment on peoples' own blog as well. It is a great tool that should still be used now, and in the future.

Uncle Tom is obident, he serves his Southern owners well. Loyal, because he doesn't escape, and very compassionate. He goes out of his way to help his owners and neighbors.
I am ok with the book, there has not been very much going on. Its pretty slow still, but maybe it will get more into the slaves and their lives.

    ...
Shug Avery- Shug is a very confident woman. She is a singer going around to different juke joints. Shug and Albert had a fling early in her life but for some reason they never got married. Albert would always go and see Shug sing whenever he knew she was. Shug got very sick and Albert was the only one who would take her in. Celie took care of her and brought her back to life. Shug slept with Albert a lot. That was okay with Celie because that would mean that Celie wouldn't have to sleep with her husband. When Celie started falling in love with Shug every time Shug and Albert had sex it would upset Celie because she wanted that to be her and Shug. Shug gave Celie confidence and figured out where Albert kept Nettie's letters to Celie. When Celie read the letters she was so angry that she was able to leave Mr. and go with Shug and her husband.
Mr./Albert- Mr. is a man who likes power and isn't afraid to show it. He believes that it's okay to beat Celie whenever he likes. Also he thinks he can sleep with Celie whenever he likes. He is a bum and bosses Celie around and makes her do all his work. He invites Shug into their house and doesn't even think about if Celie cares of not that he is sleeping with another woman. Celie isn't a wife to him. She's like a maid that does whatever she wants. After Celie leaves him Albert falls apart. His son had to come over to his house and nurse him back to health. His son made him bathe and eat. After he got over Celie being gone he started doing work himself. Like in the field and in the house.

I feel like this is a good way to write about books that you are reading. Also it is a good way to find out what other books people are reading and see what they think of them. I also think that it is a more accurate way to see who actually reads and understands their books, other than tests that just ask you obvious questions.

    Summery
The book The Color Purple, by Alice Walker was a woman named Celie who had a hard life and told about it through letters to God. She was forced to marry a man that her father picked. Mr. didn't even want to marry Celie, he wanted to marry his sister Nettie, but their father wouldn't let him. Mr. isn't very nice to Celie, but Celie doesn't know any better. Until Shug Avery comes into her life and shows her what love should be. Shug changes Celie's life and makes her a different woman. Shug gets Celie to be confident to stand up to Albert to get out of his house and go live with Shug and her husband. Celie also takes the letters that Mr. hid all these years. When Celie leaves she reads all the letters that Nettie has written her and finds out many things. She finds out about her kids and hears that the man who she thought was her father really wasn't her father. She also finds out everything Nettie went through while in Africa. Celie starts writing letters to Nettie instead of God. While living with Shug she starts sewing pants. Celie becomes really good at it and decides to open up a pant store. Celie gets a letter that a note saying that Nettie and her husbands ship sunk while on the way back to the U.S. That devastates Celie because she was so close to seeing Nettie again and finally meeting her children. Many exciting things happen at the end of the book to make this a happy ending but you will have to read the book yourself to find them out.
