Celie- Celie is a woman who has had an unfortunate life. She grew up being raped by her father and having two of his kids, then she was married off to a man that beat and had sex with her when she didn't want to. Her husband beats her. She takes care of all the household responsibilities. Celie does all the work on the farm, she takes care of all her husbands children, cooks, and cleans. Celie loves her sister and when Albert kicked Nettie out Celie was devastated and misses Nettie very much. When Shug Avery comes into Celie's life, it was life changing. At first she didn't know what to think of her, but over time she fell in love. Shug is a very important piece of Celie because it is the first person Celie has truly loved that wasn't related to her. At the end of the book when Shug leaves Celie for another man it really devastates Celie. Through the whole book Celie is thinking about Nettie and hoping that she comes back.
Nettie-Nettie is Celie's younger sister. Nettie and Celie grew up best friends. When Celie got married and Nettie came to stay with them Mr. tried to sleep with her and Nettie refused. Mr. kicked Nettie out of the house and told Celie she is never to talk to her again. When Nettie left she found a couple with two kids that were planning on going to Africa as missionaries. There was room for one more so Nettie went with them. Nettie spent the next 30 years in Africa. During that time she wrote to Celie as much as she could. The letters never got to Celie because Mr. hid them from Celie. After a few years Nettie figured out that the two kids were Celie's. Also Corrine died and she then married Samuel. When Nettie finally made it back to the United States it was very emotional when she see's Celie for the first time.
Shug Avery- Shug is a very confident woman. She is a singer going around to different juke joints. Shug and Albert had a fling early in her life but for some reason they never got married. Albert would always go and see Shug sing whenever he knew she was. Shug got very sick and Albert was the only one who would take her in. Celie took care of her and brought her back to life. Shug slept with Albert a lot. That was okay with Celie because that would mean that Celie wouldn't have to sleep with her husband. When Celie started falling in love with Shug every time Shug and Albert had sex it would upset Celie because she wanted that to be her and Shug. Shug gave Celie confidence and figured out where Albert kept Nettie's letters to Celie. When Celie read the letters she was so angry that she was able to leave Mr. and go with Shug and her husband.
Mr./Albert- Mr. is a man who likes power and isn't afraid to show it. He believes that it's okay to beat Celie whenever he likes. Also he thinks he can sleep with Celie whenever he likes. He is a bum and bosses Celie around and makes her do all his work. He invites Shug into their house and doesn't even think about if Celie cares of not that he is sleeping with another woman. Celie isn't a wife to him. She's like a maid that does whatever she wants. After Celie leaves him Albert falls apart. His son had to come over to his house and nurse him back to health. His son made him bathe and eat. After he got over Celie being gone he started doing work himself. Like in the field and in the house.

I feel like this is a good way to write about books that you are reading. Also it is a good way to find out what other books people are reading and see what they think of them. I also think that it is a more accurate way to see who actually reads and understands their books, other than tests that just ask you obvious questions.

The book The Color Purple, by Alice Walker was a woman named Celie who had a hard life and told about it through letters to God. She was forced to marry a man that her father picked. Mr. didn't even want to marry Celie, he wanted to marry his sister Nettie, but their father wouldn't let him. Mr. isn't very nice to Celie, but Celie doesn't know any better. Until Shug Avery comes into her life and shows her what love should be. Shug changes Celie's life and makes her a different woman. Shug gets Celie to be confident to stand up to Albert to get out of his house and go live with Shug and her husband. Celie also takes the letters that Mr. hid all these years. When Celie leaves she reads all the letters that Nettie has written her and finds out many things. She finds out about her kids and hears that the man who she thought was her father really wasn't her father. She also finds out everything Nettie went through while in Africa. Celie starts writing letters to Nettie instead of God. While living with Shug she starts sewing pants. Celie becomes really good at it and decides to open up a pant store. Celie gets a letter that a note saying that Nettie and her husbands ship sunk while on the way back to the U.S. That devastates Celie because she was so close to seeing Nettie again and finally meeting her children. Many exciting things happen at the end of the book to make this a happy ending but you will have to read the book yourself to find them out.

I would give this book a 3 because I thought this book was pretty interesting. I would say this book was average because there is a lot of things in this book that weren't very important to the plot of this story and it just made the book seem really long at some points. This book was good because it is totally different from any other book I have read and it is always good to read a different type of book then what you are used to reading.

This week I am on page 136 in The Color Purple. I feel like the predictions I made about this book were correct. I said that this book would show the discrimination of black women during this time. This book definitely does that. Since the last time I talked about Celie I said that she gets pushed around, gets beat, and has to have sex with men she doesn't want to. All that is still happening but now she found someone she really loves. It's a woman, her name is Shug Avery. I think that Celie feels that she really likes Shug because all the men that she knows are really mean and don't treat her nice and Shug is a woman and treats Celie like she has never been treated. I think that something big is going to happen soon. Celie found the letters from her sister Nettie after all these years and she is very angry at Mr. I think that Celie is going to do something to his to get back for keeping her letters from her. I'm happy that I chose this book because I've never read anything like this and it's interesting to read it.

This week I am on page 61 in The Color Purple. My last blog I misinformed you about her children. They didn't die or get killed. They were just taken away. The reason I know this is because she thought she saw her daughter Olivia in the street one day with her new parents. The quote I chose was on page 38, said by Mr.. He said to his son Harpo, "Young womens no good these days, he say. Got they legs open to every Tom, Dick, and Harry." This quote really stood out to me because I feel like this whole book goes around that motto, that women are disposable and sleep with everyone. Like with Celie being raped by her dad and now Mr. And Harpo getting his girlfriend pregnant because he thinks that it will help them get married. Having Mr. say this just shows his disrespect for women because he thinks they will sleep with any man, when really they are being forced to and they have no choice.

So far in my book The Color Purple, Alice Walker, I have read 25 pages. I haven't been able to read very much this week due to the beginning of our volleyball season and all the stress along with that. So far the main character is Celie. Growing up was hard for her. She was raped many times by her father when she was a teenager. She bore many children as a result, but each of them either died or were killed. A few years later her little sister Nettie caught the eye of a man. One day while he was at the house Celie begged him to take herself as his wife instead of her sister. I think she didn't like this man, but she just really wants to get out of her house. And out of the house she would be away from her father. My prediction for this book is that Celie will find a way out of the house, but find herself in the same situation she found herself with her father. I think that because women who grow up like Celie did usually find themselves in the same situations when they grow up.
